My Rosacea Diagnosis
I have struggled with skin issues for years. I have always had acne prone skin and like many other people who suffer with skin issues, I feel like I have tried EVERYTHING! Recently I decided that enough was enough, I booked myself into a specialist skin clinic. I had a free consultation with a very knowledgeable lady who told me that I in fact did not have acne at all. I am suffering with something called Rosacea! WHAT?! I had been to countless doctors appointments and spent time, money, effort and hope on curing my acne, no wonder it wasn’t working… I’ve been trying to treat the wrong thing.
I felt deflated and hopeful all at the same time, I was upset that I had wasted so much on trying to treat acne. I couldn’t believe that not one of the healthcare professionals I had seen about my condition knew what was really going on. Part of me then wished it was acne, as I was told that Rosacea is a lot more tricky to treat. The bright side is, at least I have answers and a promise that someone will help me to improve my skin.
What Is Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that is often mistaken for acne. If left untreated, Rosacea worsens over time. Rosacea treatment can widely vary, as it is not known what causes it exactly. Rosacea typically appears on the face, usually around the t-zone and cheeks and can be very red, hot, dry and bumpy.
My treatment is going to begin with 3 sessions of DMK (Danne Montague-King) Enzyme Therapy. This is a kind of ‘facial’ procedure where the skin is cleansed and nourished to draw out bacteria and remove dead skin. The procedure is used to strengthen and calm the skin. I will be given skin care products to be used at home as part of my skin care routine which should boost healing further. I was also advised to make changes to my diet to help with my skin, as diet is closely linked to skin care problems. I plan on packing in lots of fruits and veggies to help my skin to heal.
There is a high chance I will need further treatment after my DMK sessions. My skin care specialist will make an assessment once we see how my skin has reacted to these initial changes.
Light At The End Of The Tunnel
Although I know there are worse things in the world to suffer with than Rosacea, I can say that having it really does suck massive balls! Having this skin issue is bad enough, but not knowing how to help myself to make it better has been even worse. I have had a complete knock in self confidence in the way I look. Along with becoming a mother and losing a bit of myself in the process. I have not been my usual confident, happy go lucky self over the last couple of years. I am determined for that to change and I am going to do everything I can to change it for myself.
The pressures we have put on us as women can be a tough load to have upon our shoulders. Its easy for us to think we should look flawless all of the time. But when something is out of our control we can only do our best.
I Hope I Can Help
If you are suffering with a skin condition, or something else that makes you feel crappy about yourself.. don’t give up trying to make things better! Keep researching and keep your chin up too! There will be an answer it just sometimes takes us a little longer to find it.
I will be blogging and vlogging about my progress with my Rosacea treatment. Please stay tuned and share your questions and experiences with me in the comments below. Don’t forget to check out my YouTube channel and subscribe for my DMK treatment video coming soon.
