Those Pesky Immunisations
Don’t get me wrong, I know that immunisations aren’t meant to be a walk in the park. Especially when our little ones are still too little to understand what’s happening, and why we chose for them to be immunised…BUT.. This set of jabs were awful!
Here in the U.K., at around 12 months old our little ones have 2 jabs in each leg. Here’s what they pump into them all at once!!
Meningitis C +Hib
Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMRvexPRO)
Pneumococcal (Prevenar 13)
Now, I know immunisation is a bit of a controversial topic. I can understand why parents chose not to do it. I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t wanna kick the nurse right in the tits for hurting my little angel! There are also many other reasons that parents chose not to immunise, and I totally understand why, however… I personally would rather take my changes with the jabs than the illnesses themselves.
As I sat there with a screaming toddler on my knee, the nurse told me the possible side effects. High fever, a rash, swollen glands or painful joints.. we did have a fever for just one night. There were however a ton of other awful side affects that I wasn’t warned about.
My little Belle became extremely irritable 2 days after her jabs. She was constantly tired and grumpy, but wouldn’t sleep. Belle just didn’t want to be touched or cuddled which meant I couldn’t comfort her or console her. My poor baby would wake up screaming and I struggled to calm her down again. She was completely off her food, she also had a large bruise and lump in her leg at the injection site at one side (the MMR injection side).
This behaviour was so out of character, I usually have a happy little soul with a wicked sense of humour who is usually all smiles. I felt like I had taken her to the doctors and came home with a different child!
This lasted for around a week, maybe a little longer. As her mood seemed to ease and she became a little bit more chilled out, she got a fever and was just wiped out. She began to sleep again! We then had the grossest explosive nappies I have EVER seen! This is still going on at day 14 post jabs and I am left here wondering what on earth has caused my baby so much Upset to her system.
Also why don’t they tell us the “real” symptoms when we take them for their immunisations? I could have better prepared myself for an awful couple of weeks if I had known.
I always take to parenting forums when I need that reassurance that other parents have been through the same thing with their little ones. This time I found lots of others complaining of the same symptoms that Belle had. Some of them were exactly the same.
It’s great that we live in a day and age, that as parents we can turn to each other for advice and reassurance. Sometimes all we need to know is that other parents and kiddies have gone through the same thing and there is nothing to be alarmed about.
I am happy to report that now we have a happy baby again, she is back to her old self which is such a relief. We just need the runny nappies to subside and we should be golden!
Let me know in the comments below how your little ones coped with their jabs. Did they have the same strange side affects?
Love from me! <3
